The Masculinity Project: This War At Home 7mins

Produced by Kay Shaw, and Nonso Christian Ugbode

Bronx native Ivan Sanchez hung with a tough crowd growing up, a story he chronicles with great and honest detail in his recently published autobiography "Next Stop."

In this short tribute to his uncle, who he was named after, Sanchez explores the connection between the black and brown men who never made their way home from Vietnam, and the sons, nephews, and siblings they left behind in urban enclaves like the Bronx. "Had you lived you might have taught me how to be a man" Sanchez laments as he uses his uncle's memory to motivate his personal mission of positive change in his neighborhood; and making the best impact he can on young minds today who are trying to navigate similar circumstances that surrounded his own youth in the "Boogie Down Bronx."
